Our church became one, after many changes in location. The Noank Methodist Church on Sylvan Street in Noank combined with the Groton Methodist Church, formerly on Cottage Street. An area was chosen in between Noank and Groton City, where a new building was erected, and Christ United Methodist Church was formed. The opening service at 200 Hazelnut Hill Road in the town of Groton was on Easter Sunday, 1972. An addition was added in 1997 to allow us to spread our wings and reach out in spiritual growth. We celebrated our 40th anniversary in 2012.
Christ United Methodist Church is a family of faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. We accept Christ's call to proclaim the gospel in word and deed by our prayer, worship, fellowship, and by our activities in the world, providing a ministry of compassion in the name of Jesus Christ.
At Christ United Methodist Church, we are called to mirror Jesus' actions in celebrating diversity and practicing equality in all church activities. We welcome those of all ages, races, ethnicity, gender identities, sexual orientations, socioeconomic backgrounds, and political ideologies. We mutually pledge to embrace our differences in abilities, opinions, and backgrounds, and combine them to do God's work in the world.
